So no data/music/gaming EVER? Yeah, I'd say maybe 10%. Now, if you'd say used for other purposes once a month or something, then it might be different.
Whenever I ask somebody who has an S60 phone what they do with it, the answer usually is, 'oh, just voice and sms'. They have no clue what they have in their pocket...
I remember Vanjoki showing a slide that listed calls as taking something like 10-30 percent of the S60 users' time. However without a reference I wouldn't go around quoting myself on that.
Because Vanjoki would really show you a slide that says something bad about the trend towards converged devices ... right? That was a slide based on an opt in study that only hard core people knew about. Not the best way to gain data. Yes they're the future, but you need to know what is going on right now. I think the small increases we're seeing in operators making revenue off data is telling that the trend is there, but not right now to make any meaningful impact.
"Voice is 12% of usage time of device", not about number of users that uses an S60 phone for mainly voice/sms/non-data stuff, which is what we're trying to establish here. my guess? 70% without data plans
Yea, cheers for that. But if what @constantine said is true (and why wouldn't it?), it's not really valid re: where this thread started from. Interesting nonetheless.
If you really mean just used for voice calls and SMS, then the percentage is near 0. According to the Nokia study that I think @jounikjuntunen quoted (>500 people in W. Europe, 12 S60 models), almost everyone used the camera at some point, and >80% used the browser, typically 2 URL's per week.

I'd say we collectively make up a very small percentage of data-centric users ...

Hm, maybe I should have been more precise. People that use their S60 phone with a mobile data subscription :-)

So you're guessing that the percentage of S60 owners that have a mobile data subscription for their device is 10%?
I might could buy that.

@dst: I recall around similar figure. You could probably find the Jaiku thread about Vanjoki's presentation and check.

Voice is 12% of usage time of device. Wifi covers third of data. Browsing takes 52% of data traffic.

Thanks jouni!

I know, but these were probably the Vanjoki numbers people tried to remember.

Jouni, I realized that after re-reading the thread :) thanks for the figures, they're interesting.
